ASTEC Digital bringing mobile telematics to Signal Connectivity Suite in 2025
ASTEC Digital is bringing the rest of its mobile telematics solutions onto its new Signal Connectivity Suite next year under a unified telematics application.
Many customers operate a diverse range of equipment, combining Roadtec machines with other pavers and plants, or leveraging Peterson equipment or ASTEC’s plant control systems. For larger organizations, this often includes integrating ASTEC’s Guardian boxes alongside third-party equipment from other manufacturers.
Recognizing the realities of mixed fleets, ASTEC Digital is redefining telematics with a unified solution. This innovative platform empowers users to seamlessly monitor, manage, and maintain all their equipment—regardless of the manufacturer—within one intuitive application, designed to streamline operations and deliver actionable insights.
The application, currently under development, will give users insight into their mobile assets’ engine data, location, and activity and enable them to receive real-time machine alerts and fault codes. It is expected to go live before the end of 2025.
The telematics application is part of ASTEC Digital’s near-term development of the Signal Connectivity Suite. The platform formally launched this summer at signal.astecdigital.com with an update of ASTEC Digital’s flagship Guardian Telematics application. This update brought a sleek, modern interface and simplified controls to the already powerful telematics and equipment diagnostics system. Existing Guardian users are in the process of being migrated to the new platform with an expected full migration by the beginning of 2025.
“We’ve heard some really positive early feedback now that we have machines and customers on Signal,” says Eric Baker, vice president of ASTEC Digital.
ASTEC Digital is also integrating data from its plant automation and control software offerings, including DrumTronic, BatchTronic, EmulTronic, and PM3, into the Signal Connectivity Suite. This integration enhances telematics connectivity by providing a centralized hub for managing both mobile equipment and plant operations. By unifying data from production, equipment, and control systems, customers can gain a comprehensive view of their operations, enabling more precise decision-making, improved efficiency, and better resource allocation. The integration will also add proactive maintenance, real-time performance monitoring, and streamlined workflows, helping operators optimize productivity and sustainability across their entire operational footprint.
The Signal name was chosen as a nod to the platform’s key role in guiding asphalt operations, unifying data and prompting action. It also speaks to ASTEC’s deep roots in Chattanooga, TN, where Signal Mountain overlooks the Chattanooga Valley. Signal Connectivity Suite will act as a digital vantage point for customers, providing a comprehensive view of their operational data.
The future goal for Signal is to see every part of customers’ rock to road operations interconnected, intelligent and sustainable. The company plans to integrate advanced technologies such as machine learning, predictive analytics and augmented reality to provide real-time recommendations, proactive reports, AI-driven maintenance predictions and extended-reality repair operation. Customers will also benefit from an enhanced monitoring of jobs, shifts, projects and materials. Further development of the platform will be informed by ASTEC’s deep industry expertise and feedback from customers.
